Squier Sonic Precision Bass MN California Blue — Iconic P-Bass Tone, Lightweight Feel

The Squier Sonic Precision Bass MN California Blue delivers the legendary P-Bass punch in a beginner-friendly, stage-ready package. This four-string electric bass carries the iconic Fender Precision Bass shape with a slim C-shaped neck and a narrow nut that welcomes players of any hand size. Built around a single ceramic split single-coil pickup voiced in-house at Fender, it produces the punchy, articulate tone that has powered countless rhythm sections across rock, pop, reggae, and punk. A thin poplar body keeps the instrument balanced for long rehearsals, while the maple neck and maple fingerboard offer the snappy attack that defines classic P-Bass character. At this price tier, it is one of the most accessible entry points into the Fender bass family without sacrificing the look, feel, or tonal DNA of the original.

What Sets This Bass Apart in the Beginner Category

What separates this model from other entry-level basses is the pairing of a Fender-voiced ceramic split single-coil pickup with a synthetic bone nut, a combination rarely seen at this price point. The 4-saddle hardtail bridge and vintage-style open-gear tuning machines provide the tuning stability and accurate intonation needed for live performance, not just bedroom practice. Combined with chrome hardware and a 1-ply white pickguard, the instrument carries the visual cues of a much more expensive bass while remaining genuinely affordable.

Body and Tonewoods — Lightweight Poplar With Stage-Ready Shine

The body material and finish shape both comfort and tone on stage and in the rehearsal room. Poplar keeps the weight down so long sets and standing gigs do not strain the shoulder, while the gloss polyurethane finish protects the wood and gives the California Blue color a polished look under stage lighting. The maple neck adds brightness and snap to every note, reinforcing the cutting midrange that defines the Precision Bass voice.

• Body Material: Poplar — lightweight and balanced for extended playing sessions
• Body Finish: Gloss Polyurethane — durable shine that holds up to regular gigging
• Pickguard: 1-Ply White — classic Fender visual cue that frames the pickup

Neck and Playability — Slim C-Shape, Narrow Nut, Fast Fingerboard

Playability is where this instrument earns its place as a gateway into the Fender bass world. The bolt-on maple neck construction adds resonance and sustain while keeping the neck stable under string tension. A slim C-shaped profile paired with a narrow 38.1 mm nut width makes the bass comfortable for players with smaller hands, students, and guitarists transitioning to bass. The 241 mm fingerboard radius and 20 narrow-tall frets support smooth position shifts and clean attack across the entire range.

• Neck Material: Maple — bright, snappy response that reinforces P-Bass midrange character
• Neck Shape: C-Shape — slim and inviting for hours of comfortable playing
• Fingerboard Radius: 241 mm — modern feel that supports fast, even string bending
• Nut Width: 38.1 mm — narrow profile ideal for smaller hands and guitar-to-bass players

Electronics and Hardware — Ceramic Pickup, Passive Circuit, Reliable Hardware

The electronics and hardware package is tuned for straightforward, gig-ready performance. A single ceramic split single-coil pickup in the neck position delivers punchy lows and focused midrange, covering everything from reggae thump to rock chug with a few twists of the tone knob. Master Volume and Master Tone controls give players full command of the signal without unnecessary complexity, while the passive circuit keeps the signal path simple and reliable. The 4-saddle hardtail bridge, vintage-style open-gear tuners, and chrome hardware round out a setup that holds tuning through rehearsals and shows.

• Pickup Configuration: Ceramic Split Single-Coil — punchy lows and articulate midrange for any genre
• Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone — straightforward signal shaping with no extra switches
• Bridge: 4-Saddle Hardtail — accurate intonation adjustment across all four strings
• Tuning Machines: Vintage-Style Open-Gear — smooth, stable tuning with a classic look
• Strings: Nickel-Plated Steel (.045–.105) — bright attack and balanced tension out of the box

The Precision Bass Legacy — Seven Decades of Fender Bass DNA

Introduced by Fender in 1951, the Precision Bass was the world's first commercially successful electric bass guitar and redefined rhythm sections across every genre of popular music. The Squier Sonic series carries that legacy forward by offering genuine Fender DNA at an accessible price, with each instrument designed and voiced at Fender's headquarters. The California Blue finish pays homage to one of Fender's most beloved vintage colors, giving players a stage-ready look rooted in over seven decades of bass history.
